Muyiwa Akinwolere & Agemo Francis | EXHIBITION

'Banana Republic'

30th Nov - 12th Dec

09:00 - 18:00 daily

Currently on at Untitled in Ikoyi, is a dual exhibition by artists Muyiwa Akinwolere and Agemo Francis entitled 'Banana Republic'; a term Akinwolere says he came across a couple of years ago when he heard a political journalist using it to describe the systemic failure with regard to the country.

Through paintings and sculptures 'Banana Republic' takes a satirical look at the economic downturn, political instability and the citizens own culpability in the decline of the country. Whilst, it's no doubt a meditation on the issues Nigeria and its citizens face; there is also a desire to create a fictional country, with its own identity, that holds up a mirror to problems plaguing a myriad of countries and their citizens.

The exhibition closes this Thur.
