THIS WEEK IN LAGOS

Slightly different format this week. We don't have a jam packed roster of things to do this week in Lagos. It seems like Detty December well and truly finished everybody. Lagosians don tire; we've been scrolling through our feeds looking for exhibitions, gigs, parties. Nothing. Well nothing of great interest we think you need to know about. If we're wrong, abeg, hit us up and let us know what ace events are happening in Lagos that we're dulling on and we'll get it up on here.

SUN 12.01.20

Etuk Ubong | LIVE MUSIC

One thing that is worthy of note happening on the 12th Jan is the 'Sunday Commune' conceived by musician Etuk Ubong, whose influences range from funk, jazz, highlife to afrobeat. Etuk notes that the sounds of the elements - water, wind and fire also influence his sound, hence his self coined genre of music 'Earth Music'. His venue 'The Truth' plays hosts to his Sunday Commune - live music with a positive aura in an intimate space.

For the first session of the new decade, Etuk will be performing with his band Etuk's Philosophy with a special guest in tow - Cheyenne Labesa.

SUN 12.01.20

The Young Contemporaries Exhibition @ Rele | EXHIBITION

Ooh we just heard word of another event going down on Sun...

The Rele Arts Foundation will be presenting work by artists from its Young Contemporaries program.

Birthed in 2016, it was created to "provide a critical and engaging platform for a new generation of emerging artistic talent in Nigeria'". According to the curators, "the program has provided an enabling environment for young artists to be part of the evolving discourse on cutting-edge artistic practice, art and social activism. These artists focus on critical issues that impact the immediate Nigerian/African and global contexts."

For Young Contemporaries 2020, Rele will be introducing six young artists who've been developing new work over the past 5 months. The culmination of their work will be on display at Rele on Sunday, January 12th, 2020.

The artists? David Olatoye | Chidinma Nnoli | Kingsley Ayogu | Judith Daduut | Jonathan Chambalin.
