Ayọ̀ Akínwándé | EXHIBITION
Mumu LP Vol.3: The Listening Room
27th Oct – 10th Nov 2019
FREE
You can catch Ayọ̀ Akínwándé’s solo exhibition “Mumu LP Vol.3: The Listening Room” at the Jazzhole until the 10th Nov.
Akínwándé describes his exhibition as a "sculptural sound installation" that documents civilians reflection on our political landscape. This feeds into his long-term project, started in 2016 entitled 'Archiving the Future’ - this comprised collating both social media screenshots and audio recordings of conversations in public spaces around Lagos, often at key moments in the political calendar.
Mumu LP Vol.3 is a further development of Mumu LP Vol.1 (2018) which collated 1+ hour worth of audio recordings in a 19-track album recorded at newspaper stands in Lagos; and Mumu LP Vol.2: The Orchestra (2019) - a performance piece transforming the original recordings from the 1st volume into graphic scores on newspapers, which were then turned into 19 new tracks in collab with five local musicians playing trumpet, bass clarinet, saxophone, guitar, and tuba.
The pieces will be installed in existing objects within the rooms of the Jazzhole.
