There'll be a screening this Sat at Polly Alakija's studio of 'The Cafe of Dreams', a documentary (dir. Ed Emeka Keazor) charting the popularity of the Dolphin Cafe, a pre-eminent Highlife dance hall during the 'golden age' (1956-1967).
The theme of Highlife shall continue through the evening, with the West African Highlife Collective taking to the stage. Veteran percussionist, Chief Tony 'Akatakpo' Odili will be performing, which is pretty incredible considering he is 91-year-old! We're hoping will be just as alert and passionate as him at his age! The band will be performing hits by some of the greatest artists of the golden era of Big Band Highlife including: Bobby Benson, Celestine Ukwu and Rex Lawson.
