The first thing that struck us about Thai Thai was how bright the space was. Quite a few Lagos establishments are badly lit, so this really brought us joy. We are totally cliche, so we obviously loved all the plants both indoors and outdoors (especially on the balcony - a perfect spot for you smokers).

Thai Thai is at no 16 Kofo Abayomi Street and is part of the 16by16 collective which comprises a gallery, guest rooms and a restaurant. There's no real sign upon entry, so some navigation is required. We'll help you out. Head to the 2nd floor for Thai Thai and the 8th floor for the gallery.

As you step onto the 2nd floor, you're greeted with some Basquiat style wall art. Upon entry there's a wide open space with limited seating: one communal bench with 6 seats and 2 tables in the back room comprising 4 seats each.

Sometimes they host exhibitions here, so part of the walls are adorned with art but this space is really for chowing down on some home made Thai grub.

To the grub...
Apparently, the head chef is from Bangkok, so you should expect some authenticity.
The prawn cakes (₦3,000) were a generous portion, you get about 6 pieces in total, 2 is enough for one person tbh, so def a starter to share, unless you're a glutton but we don't judge here at RAKE, go on, please your belly. The prawn cakes came with a sweet chilli paste which was rather more-ish. Would order again.
Banh-mi was on the menu (₦3,000). Hallellujah! The beef one is peng but the bread wasn't spectacular (it wasn't terrible though). In all fairness to them, they actually asked our thoughts on the baguette as they were looking at various bakeries in Lagos but bread in this our city is expensive, so if they secure better bread, best know, they'll probs hike up their price. Live customer feedback - we loved the fact that they're constantly seeking to improve, we need more of this in Lagos. Restaurants DON'T REST ON YOUR LAURELS, if you have any (no shade intended).

Had to go for the Thai Green Curry (₦3,500). We're basic, we know. Pretty sure they made the paste from scratch, felt like real love went into this - a little on the sweet side for our palette and we'd have loved a bit more heat but overall, really quite impressed - we'd certainly re-order this dish.

The food came super fast but there weren't a ton load of customers, not sure what it'd be like during their peak period.

Service to start with was a little touch and go but the guys loosened up pretty soon and were really quite lovely. Like most spots in Lagos, they find it tricky to recommend dishes but the onus is on the proprietors to feed them and educate them on the dishes, so we can't be mad at them.

For starters, a main and an alcoholic bevvy, set aside c.₦7k.

If you're looking for a casual space to dine with fun modern aesthetic, Thai Thai is a good option.

Oh by the way, if you ain't a guest in one of the rooms, you ain't getting free wi-fi. Sad times.

We are napkins, menus and toilet fascists. Here's our verdict:

Napkins: it's a casual spot, they just have serviettes, so we cool

Menus: quite fun! we hate lamination usually but this works without looking super tacky

Toilet: pee didn't grab us whilst we were there, we need to revisit and check
