THE BACKYARD

'Sportsbar' with an 'outdoor' garden

Backyard is a restaurant and bar (you can read the restaurant right up here)

There are kind of two bar areas at Backyard, one in the main building housing the restaurant and the other is a roofed outdoor bar directly opposite. Smack bang in the middle is a garden of sorts. We say that because it's mainly a sandpit as opposed to grass; there are wooden benches for people to perch on here and fans to try and keep you cool.

We hate TVs in dining / drinking spots, so as you can imagine, we struggle with a lot of Lagos establishments. The Backyard has a number of screens which makes sense because it feels like it's pitching itself as a bit of an upscale sportsbar. So, we can kind of let it go. In the outdoor bar, they've got a foosball table if you want to get in on some semi sporting action IRL.

Beer wise, they've got Heineken, star and more. Cocktail wise, they stick to the Naija faves: mojitos, margaritas and other classics. We've only had the marg which wasn't bad for Lagos but it wasn't brilliant either - a touch to sweet which as an enduring problem for most drinking dens in Gidi.

The service is friendly if a bit overzealous and over familiar at times which might grate some people.

We are menu and toilet fascists.

Menus: laminated. Sigh. Could do with a re-print

Toilet: top stuff
