Nok By Alara
‘Modern African’ eats in a cool upscale setting

Nok, a dining destination in its own right can be found at the rear of luxury concept store, Alara, annexed to a lush outdoor space. Its chic black walls serve as a canvas for contemporary African art and basket chandeliers hang elegantly from the ceiling.
If you want authentic naija jollof piled high on your plate, this is not your jam. Senegalese chef, Pier Thiam, a pioneer of ‘Modern African’ dining, designed the menu. He’s put a spin on a number of traditional dishes from across Africa and plays with familiar ingredients like ofada rice but presents them in fresh new ways.
There’s a tiny bar space within Nok and come nightfall, it’s teeming with hip Lagosians. The colourful rooftop terrace has a grill if you’re after something a little bit more low key and there’s a hand crafted wooden foosball table if you’re feeling playful. We’re not gonna lie, Nok is expensive and not all the dishes are bang on BUT it’s offering a fresh modern approach to African dining that you just won’t find in a setting as chic and cool. So, don’t go if you ain’t go no dough as you might leave with a sour taste in your mouth.

we dig
The oxtail melt. Just yes. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, def order the pof pof with baobab and chocolate sauce. Drinks wise, try the light touch but deadly ‘Ogogoro Collins’.
